The project team focused on the archaeological finds from Pezdirčeva njiva in Podzemelj to examine the technological processes used to make bronze helmet and how to design a copy of it today.

The glitz and gloom of prehistoric bronze - The Negau helmet from Podzemelj
The Negau helmet from Podzemelj, an exceptional archaeological find on display at the Belokranjski Museum in Metlika, was brought under the microscope at the end of 2023. We wanted to find out what the technology of making a bronze helmet was like in the 4th century BCE, and how to make a copy today. Research involving archaeology students, conservation and restoration, graphics, metallurgy, and materials confirmed that the original helmet had been forged.
In order to gain a deeper insight into the research, an exhibition has been organised at the Mitnica Gallery, next to the NTF buildings, Aškerčeva cesta 12.

Histri in istria / histri u istri
Histri in Istria exhibition was an international collaboration between the Archaeological Museum of Istria in Pula (Cro) and the Museum of Antiquities J. J. Winckelmann in Trieste (It) on the initiative of the Croatian community in Trieste. It was the first time the Histri were presented outside Croatia, stimulating a successful dialogue between Istria and Friuli-Venezia Giulia. In less than three months, the exhibition was visited by 20,127 visitors, with a series of guest lectures offered and the luxury catalogue "The Heroic Age of Histri" promoted by the author of the exhibition.

NEW PROJECT ARRIVAL: Mobility in the Late Bronze and Early Iron Age
UP FHŠ has been successful in acquiring a new research project within the Call for Co-financing of the Slovenian part of bilateral or tripartite joint research projects, co-funded by the Slovenian Research Agency (ARIS).
Assoc. prof. dr. Boris Kavur, PhD is the leader of the Slovenian side of the funded project entitled Mobility in the Late Bronze and Early Iron Age and from the Croatian partner Institute for Anthropological Research is Assoc. prof. dr. Mario Novak.
The novel interdisciplinary methodological approach will systematically address different material categories from a diachronic perspective in line with fine archaeological contexts, and by using spatiotemporal modelling based on short chronological estimates to cover the period between the 15th and 5th century BCE.

NEW PROJECT ARRIVAL: Cultural heritage in the network of creative industries
UP FHŠ has been successful in acquiring a new research project within the Call for Co-financing of the Slovenian part of bilateral or tripartite joint research projects, co-funded by the Slovenian Research Agency (ARIS).
Assoc. prof. dr. Boris Kavur, PhD is the leader of the Slovenian side of the funded project entitled Cultural heritage in the network of creative industries and from the Monteneginian partner University of Donja Gorica, Faculty for Culture and Tourism is Assoc. prof. dr. Anđela Jakšić Stojanović.
As part of the project, we will show that the global connection of human communities is not just a modern phenomenon or social phenomenon, but a state in which human communities have been involved for millennia. It is these processes of networking and connectivity that can best be studied through analyses of cultural heritage. That reflects the application of the concept of heritage in archaeology, anthropology, and the study of identities and mobility, where the central research issue in recent times has focused on weakening the link between culture and place in an increasingly globalized world.

NEW PROJECT ARRIVAL: From Sea to Sea: Continuity and Changes between the Bronze and Iron Age on the territory between the Adriatic and the Pannonian plain (ERC KS N6-0297)
UP FHŠ has been successful in acquiring a new research project within the Public Call for Proposals for the co-funding of research projects under the complementary scheme for applications to European Research Council (ERC) calls, co-funded by the Slovenian Research Agency (ARRS).
Assoc. prof. Martina Blečić Kavur, PhD is the leader of the funded project entitled From Sea to Sea: Continuity and Changes between the Bronze and Iron Age on the territory between the Adriatic and the Pannonian plain. The project will focus on two major perspectives of archaeological research of the past - it will use modern analytical technologies to analyze the circulation of objects, raw materials and people. On an interpretive level, it will show the changes and continuity of settlement patterns, social practices, technologies and material culture between the 15th and 5th centuries BCE on the territory between the Adriatic and the Pannonian plain.

NEW PROJECT ARRIVAL: Osor beyond the myth (WEAVE N6-0292)
UP FHŠ has been successful in acquiring a new research project within the Call for Co-financing of the Slovenian part of bilateral or tripartite joint research projects Weave, co-funded by the Slovenian Research Agency (ARRS).
Assoc. prof. Martina Blečić Kavur, PhD is the leader of the Slovenian side of the funded project entitled Osor beyond the myth and from the Austrian partner Universität Wien, VIAS–Vienna Institute for Archaeological Science, is Nives Doneus, PhD.
The project addresses the question whether the maritime role of the city Osor (island Cres, Kvarner bay, Croatia), as indicated by trade goods, and thus the course of the long-distance maritime routes between the Alps and the Aegean can be supported by its landscape context. Osor and its land- and seascape context will be viewed holistically focusing on five topics: 1) History of contacts and trade, 2) Spatial expansion of the city and peripheral land use, 3) Terrestrial and underwater landscape context, 4) Maritime, strategic and/or military role of Osor and 5) the role of Northern Adriatic Islands in economic and cultural long-range trade networks. The driving factor in the project is a demand for a combined approach that can do justice to the archaeological, cultural, landscape and marine aspects of the site across the border between the land and the sea.
